As the Defense Department decides the recipient of its $110 million grant for a photonics project, UCF is jumping in the game. Folks at the University of Central Florida have gotten two tech companies to join the International Consortium for Advanced Manufacturing. According to the Orlando Business Journal, ICAMR wants the grant to address the technological and manufacturing challenges that exist in the integrated photonics manufacturing. In addition, the entity and UCF are in the planning stages to build a 100,000-square-foot advanced manufacturing research facility in Osceola County. The facility would focus on manufacturing photonic sensors.
